A Wild Saturday…

In me, politics on October 7, 2004 at 5:04 pm

I live in a very groovy inner-suburban Melbourne electorate: not only is it the safest Labor Party seat in the nation (58.7% of the primary vote at the last election), it is blessed with the name Batman. It also had one of the largest Green votes last time. This means it’s a better than mediocre place to live, but a very boring place to be during an election.

That’s why I’ll be spending my Saturday “rockin’ the vote” in Mitcham.

Deakin is one of the most marginal seats in the nation and is currently held by a gap of just 1.6% by a Liberal Party bottom-feeder called Phil Barresi. I thought I’d combine the good karma of helping Labor get elected on Greens preferences with the personal satisfaction of driving an evil right-wing fuck into political oblivion.

So, if you happen to be at Heatherdale Pre-school, Purches st., Mitcham, between noon and 6 Saturday, keep an eye out for the chubby guy with a goatee handing out Greens HTVs and blowing kisses to (or possibly punching on with) the Family First crew. Should be a cracker of a day.
